Locum Insurance
When undertaking a locum position it is very important that you establish that you are insured to work in the practice. There are two ways to do this:
The practice nominates you under their policy
OR
You obtain your own insurance policy
We would strongly advise that you confirm with the practice prior to starting the locum position whether you are covered by their policy and the cover provided. Most practice based policies will only cover locums if you are currently working for them when a claim is made. If your locum booking has finished and a claim is made, you will not be covered by the practice policy and this may be costly.
It may well be worth taking out your own policy if you are going to work as a locum for any given length of time. A yearly policy is generally inexpensive and will give you peace of mind that you are happy you have the right cover in place wherever you are.
As a practice it is also important to have peace of mind in the event of illness or injury to a veterinary surgeon. Therefore it may be advantageous to arrange an insurance policy specially designed to cover this but also with the benefit of payments to covering the cost of a locum replacement.

| Open Recruitment have bravely entered a team to take part in the Talybont Challenge. This event aims to raise money so we can continue to support Guide Dogs, Open's nominated charity. This is certainly a challenge as the event involves climbing, mountain biking and trekking through the forrest and all within 10 hours. The event will take place in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales. All at Open are gearing up to it with their training schedules with the aim of raising our target of £2,500.
